Hey, it’s an open letter or at least an email to Steve Jobs

Dear Steve,

I’ve purchased three iPhones to date—two for myself and one for my wife. We’ve been increasingly unhappy with the service. As I was driving through San Francisco today, my iPhone dropped two very important calls, back-to-back, in different parts of town. Given your keynote this morning, it seemed almost like my phone was trying to tell me something.

My primary need in a mobile phone is not a collection of apps, or a great camera, or a gorgeous screen, or an occasionally functional Internet connection; it’s phone service.

I was very disappointed that you did not announce any new carriers today, and I’m hoping that you do so very soon. I love your products, but AT&T is killing me. Apple can and does make the best hardware and software in the world. Yet despite all the innovations in the iPhone 4, without basic telephony service it’s just a piece of shit.

Best,
Mat Honan
