Reckoning
Merlin’s post about So Central Rain made me have to go listen to Reckoning again. It’s by far (by far) the best album R.E.M. put out. One of the best albums of the 80s. One of my all time favorites. No matter how old I get, it always reminds me of being young. It always reminds me of being a kid in the humid air and decay of the south. It sounds like nothing so much as kudzu growing over an old shotgun shack. Every fucking track.
And plus it has that great Howard Finster cover. When I was in high school and a few times in college I used to drop acid and go hang out at paradise gardens. And I would listen to this album. And I would dream about being where I am now, and I was so wrong about where I would be now.
Waste another year.
